Media Release > World’s Largest Single Rooftop Solar Power Project Commissioned In India

Chennai: EPC player Tata Power Solar, a 100% subsidiary of Tata Power, has commissioned a 2 MW solar power plant in Tamil Nadu, considered the largest rooftop facility in South India.

"Tata Power Solar has successfully commissioned a 2MW rooftop solar plant for powerloom producer Murugan Textiles. The solar plant is part of the company's green initiatives and is the largest rooftop solar plant in South India", Tata Power Solar said in a statement.

"Rooftop solar power is increasingly being used as a mainstream option for power generation. We are proud to be associated with Murugan Textiles and are confident that the plant will help them manage their power requirement better", Tata Power Solar, EVP Projects and CTO, Arul Shanmugasundaram said.

The plant, situated across three buildings, with 800 kWp on a single building, would help displace approximately 2,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide per annum. It is designed for captive consumption and to avail REC benefits, connected to grid through a dedicated feeder at 11KV.

"We are extremely satisfied with Tata Power Solar and their commitment. We want to embrace clean energy and set a benchmark for green energy." Murugan Textiles Managing Director Murugesan said.

Located at Palladam in Tirupur district, the first phase of the plant would be 3MW and work on the second phase of 1 MW would begin early next year, the statement said.
