LED technology will penetrate 57% of the lighting market by 2021


Executive Summary

India is one of the fastest growing among the world economy. The growth is highly dependent on energy availability within the country. With increased dependencies on the fossil fuels for meeting electricity demand, the market has seen either huge rise in per unit charges or increase in load shedding, Corporate and Government have started emphasizing on energy efficiency and demand side management, Hence energy conservation has become an important part for financial and economic stability of households as well as professionals

Through this research we aim to understand the consumersí understanding about LED light as a source of energy conservation and identify its demand in the market. With the increased level of competition, thinning profit margin and high inflation rate, As a result savings in form of energy conservation has to play a vital role, This also indicates that the demand of energy efficient products are supposed to increase. This research helped us in finding those factors which greatly affect the consumerís choice for selecting LED as the energy efficient lighting measure as well as identify magnitude of different parameters that will drive improved consumption of LED products; It will also help retailers and manufactures to identify areas of improvement.

For this we initially conducted an exploratory research to find out the various factors that affect the consumersí choice for a lighting product. This was done through depth interviews, focused group discussions and open-ended questionnaire amongst a group of 35 people who have been involved in purchasing of lighting products or pay electricity rentals for their residents.

With the findings of the exploratory research and secondary data, a questionnaire was prepared and was administered through computers (residential users) and in-person (retailers). Layout of the questionnaire, the question format and also the question sequence was kept in mind. We interviewed 177 respondents through the questionnaire.

The data collected was analysed using frequency tables (SPSS) and Microsoft excel
